N.C.V., Choking V, L.O.C., Morning G.; not to mention, Crackrocksteady 7 and Star-f****ng Hipsters

I refer to them as “Leftover Crack” (“man, you know there ain’t no such thing as leftover crack”), but they have many incarnations with some differing members: No Commercial Value, Choking Victim, Crackrocksteady Seven (w/ members of the ska band “the Gadgits”, Morning Glory, and most recently, Star****ing Hipsters (with members of ska band “The Slackers”, amongst others).

Hatin’ on Hip-Hop?

I became intrested, while working in an underground used cd store-slash-head shop called CD Connection (in Boca Raton, Fl): Here, due to a friend, I started ordering in “underground hip-hop”. First it was Saul Williams,then Mr. Lif, Atmosphere, the Anticon (home page link here) collective (Sole, Doseone, Themselves, Buck65, etc.), Sage Francis, and Aesop Rock(–highly recommend following this link), El-P, and the rest of the Definitive Jux crew. I now listen to more underground hip-hop than I do punk on a typical day.

Do punks watch their ideal world burst into flames with delight?

What I am attempting to point out is that there is a fundamental flaw in the punk rock ethos that is self-destructive towards one’s own ideals and dreams. I am as guilty as anyone who feels this critique attacks them, but I want to understand this fundamental problem to transcend it and focus on what is truly important. Sigh….
